Hangin' with the Captain
I should never try to solder anything. One lesson I've learned in many years of self-employment is to not try and do everything. Jack of All Trades types can be appealing to employers but in the creative field its usually the sign of a person who is either a) impossible to work with b) impossibly overconfident about their own abilities. Watch a student film and you'll know what I'm talking about. Written, Directed, Catered, Edited, Scored, Produced, and did I say Catered yet by Brian Boeckman. Part of the appeal of filmmaking is that its so multi-faceted that it requires a team in order to succeed. This places young filmmakers at a fork between "I cant pay anyone" and "Even I'm not getting paid". One can follow this train of thought to "If I could just own all the equipment myself, I won't need any of these people". Another falsehood. The problem isn't a lack of equipment, its a lack of resources, namely manpower. I suppose this is all a roundabout way to say surround yourself with people that are passionate and reliable and they will lead you to succeed.
I got an email from Jake asking for a promo portrait for Steamboat Amps pulled from a demo video. There wasn't a solid portrait pull from the video, so we did a quick session around the shop. It's been crazy to watch the place grow through the years, I'm just glad I found someone to fix all my broken guitar junk that I'm stockpiling for some dumb reason.
